The ‘Health Insurance’ Tax Under Serious Consideration.
We all know the Obama’s $1 trillion health-care plan is going to be under current circumstances unsustainable in the long term, so it appears that the senate are giving very serious consideration to taxing insurance companies on their most expensive health-care plans.
John Kerry (the democratic Senator from Massachusetts), has suggested that a correctly implemented excise tax on insurers could generate tens of billions of dollars, despite many republicans and democrats saying that they would not back a plan to place a further tax on America’s wealthiest.
It is however opposed by members of the finance committee as a tax ‘on employment’. Jon Kyl Arizona Sentor has been quoted as saying “There’s very little evidence the tax on the insurer would have an impact on the insured’s behavior, which is the whole point. Secondly, it’s a tax on employment since it clearly would be passed on to employees.”
Perhaps more sensible heads from America’s Health Insurance Industry have pointed out that the new taxes will only end up making health insurance less affordable and accessible for everyone in the country which is obviously the exact opposite effect that was intended.
Whatever the outcome, there is guaranteed to be some serious head scratching in the future.
