Hold on to you hats and get ready for the next month!
We have just seen the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid decide to postpone the final vote on the reform bill of Barack Obama to September. Now, this is very interesting, because it sets up very well a big push by all the concerned parties over the next month.
According to Larry McCarthy, a Republican media consultant currently employed by the conservative Americans for Prosperity. “Two week media plans just extended to eight week media plans. Targets will expand — not only national cable and swing Senators, but more congressional districts will be added.”
The seat of power in Washington has perhaps moved the quickest so far and has started an ad campaign through the Democratic National Committee. By all accounts it seems to be some pretty powerful stuff with slogan such as “Some leading Republicans, playing politics, have vowed to kill reform,” and “Tell Republicans: the cost of doing nothing on health care is just too high.”
Other groups such as American for Prosperity are supposedly going to be spending up to a million dollars on cable TV ad’s aimed at trying to rebuff the presidents reform benefit claims.
It promises to be an interesting time for observers, and perhaps less so for those with strong vested interests in the outcome as things begin to hot up.
